In the factory
My work.
I lived in the factory for about two months and had a decent time there, despite the rusted door lock that couldn’t be secured. I had to pull a chair and hang a glass mug on the door before sleep each night.
I inherited my workspace from a boy, Yang, who had just left because he was no longer needed—he was paid. I took over because I came free of cost.
I learned his name from my colleagues who still misses him. Sometimes, they call me “Yang” before catching themselves. Yang left so quickly that, when I came to this job, his jacket was still draped over the chair I now sat in.
My work involved filling out forms and processing workers’ resignation requests. SO REPETITIVE I felt certain I’d be the first to be replaced when the AI revolution arrives.
